Considering Retirement
Medicare-eligible

Via Benefits helps guide you through retirement health insurance choices — all at no cost to you. Our goal is to help you understand your options and find coverage that fits your health and financial needs, whether you’ll be Medicare-eligible soon, or need coverage before enrolling in Medicare.

Make the Most of Your Medicare Eligibility

Whether you’re planning to retire at 65 or beyond, it’s important to keep your Medicare eligibility in mind as you consider and prepare for retirement.

Important: If you’re retiring at 66 or later in life, it’s a good idea to sign up for Medicare Parts A and B — even if you don’t enroll and use the coverage immediately.

Once you make the decision about when you’re going to retire, you’ll enter a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). This is an eight-month period that begins the month after your employment or coverage ends, whichever is first. During that time, you can review and choose your Medicare coverage.
